During few early Kms newly made / machined engine parts / surface may will contact and these surface will wear in quickly, thus every manufacturer gives a simple easy guide line which an user should follow to break in / running in their new bike.
What if you don’t follow the running in guide ?
A proper running in contributed towards a smoother ride expiration and longer engine life and better performance. You can spot the difference if you ride two bikes, one having done proper running in and one without it in side by side.
How to do running in / engine break in of Yahama R15 ?
Please first read your owners manual before taking the delivery of the bike. Yamaha has given a guide line on running in of YZF R15.
- Do not start your engine with high rev.
- After starting please wait a minute in idle before rolling to allow the engine to warm up.
- Do not high rev, shift at around 3k-4k rpm and don’t ride at higher gear and lower RPM
- Don’t cruise in highways, rather ride in city street where you can vary your RPM and go through all gears.Do not vary weight if possible. Try ride it in single.
- After 30 mins or after 30kms (which ever is early), stop and allow you engine to cool down. Gradually increase your ride time as you pile up more kms in the oddo..
- Speed bursts under lower gears are needed couple of times under the running in time..Use mineral engine oil (mobil) while you are in running in and follow a very shorter drain interval while you break in your engine.Remember the point that you are not changing the oil because the oil has gone bad, but rather to drain those engine residue which are generated in early kms of your engine.
Which engine oil to use for Yamaha YZF R15 running in / engine break in purpose ?
Yamaha has their own branded oil in collaboration with Motul. Indeed the oil which they give is the best for Yamaha bikes. There are two type of oil under YamaLube brand, YamaLube 20w40 (mineral) and YamaLube 15w50 (semi synth). For running in purpose, R15 owners should use YamaLube 20w40 (mineral) with mentioned shorter drain interval.Switch to Semi Synthetic oil after first service / running in and maintain a drain interval of 2500kmsMost of the time when we get our hands to these high cc or high performance machines, we understand how easy it is to accelerate and rev them hard and push them to their limit. But its really important for every one of these machine to follow a strict running in / break in guide line...................
